Dow and PIC combine experience and resources to emerge as major force in industry

MEGlobal is a world leader in the manufacture and marketing of merchant monoethylene glycol (MEG) and diethylene glycol (DEG), collectively known as ethylene glycol (EG). Established in July 2004, the company is a joint venture between The Dow Chemical Company and Petrochemical Industries Company of Kuwait (PIC), and is currently headquartered in Dubai, U.A.E. MEGlobal produces about 1.0 million metric tons per year of EG, and markets in excess of 2.5 million metric tons of EG per year. With approximately 200 employees worldwide, the company serves customers around the world, and has production facilities in Fort Saskatchewan and Red Deer, Alberta, Canada.

MEG and DEG

MEG is a versatile intermediate used in a wide variety
of end-use applications. MEGlobal produces and sells MEG for many uses, including the manufacture of polyester film, fiber and packaging applications, and
as the major component in antifreeze formulations.
DEG is used as a chemical intermediate for polyols
and unsaturated polyester applications. MEGlobal also sells the DEG produced in Dow’s plants in the United
States and Europe, and EQUATE Petrochemical Company and plans to sell the glycol produced by OPTIMAL Glycols.
