MEGlobal Manufacturing Sites

Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta, Canada

MEGlobal owns and operates one of the largest ethylene oxide/ethylene glycol (EO/EG) plants in Canada. Located at Dow's manufacturing site in Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta, the plant produces approximately 600 million pounds of EO and 850 million pounds of EG per year.

EO is used as a chemical intermediate to produce EG and other derivatives. Applications for EG include many of the products people use daily. Monoethylene glycol, also known as MEG, is used to manufacture polyester fibers, anti-freeze, resins for plastic bottles, and recording tapes.

Red Deer, Alberta, Canada

The Red Deer site began manufacturing ethylene glycol in 1984, opening a second plant in 1994. (A third plant, added in 2000, produces polyethylene for Dow Chemical Canada, Inc.) These sites were built at this location because of its proximity to abundant natural raw-material resources, transportation routes and a skilled workforce.

The 1,700-acre site uses ethylene as the primary feedstock for the manufacture of the chemical and plastic building blocks of products essential to everyday life, including polyester fabric fiber, automobile engine antifreeze, plastic bottles, and other EG products.
