Marilyn Sharp 4-H Scholarship awarded to local 4-H member and university student

Lacombe County, Alberta— MEGlobal Canada ULC (MEGlobal) is proud to announce that Julie Sharp is the recipient of the 2022 Marilyn Sharp 4-H Scholarship. This is a post-secondary scholarship for current or previous members of a 4-H Club in the West Central Region.

The scholarship was established by MEGlobal and Dow, which operate manufacturing facilities at the Prentiss site in Alberta, in recognition of Marilyn’s longtime volunteer contributions as a member of the Prentiss Community Advisory Panel (CAP). The successful applicant must demonstrate academic achievement, overall 4-H achievement and public speaking participation.

Julie Sharp has been a 4-H member for 10 years, holding roles in the club such as President, Vice-President, Historian, Club Reporter, Secretary, Key Member, and many more. The second recipient of this scholarship, Julie was selected for her commitment to academic success, maintaining a 3.7 GPA in her second year of studies, as well as her public speaking and leadership skills within the 4-H club.

Currently in her third year of Agriculture at the University of Saskatchewan, Julie plans to work in the livestock field, with a focus on genetics, livestock nutrition, or livestock pharmaceutical sales. Julie noted her hard work and accomplishments in 4H as not only assets to her academic career, but reasons in her selection for this scholarship.

“After spending 10 years in 4H and participating in events all the way to the national level, I feel I have gained a lot of valuable skills from 4H, and these skills have led to this scholarship. It feels really good,” she said.

MEGlobal Communications Specialist Scott Maetche said the scholarship is a way to highlight the value 4H offers to local youth, while recognizing a dedicated community leader.

“Marilyn Sharp is an incredible example of someone who is committed to being a good neighbor and to helping our industry understand the priorities and needs of the local community,” he said. “Julie is setting her own example of good citizenship through 4H and her post-secondary education. MEGlobal is extremely proud to support Julie’s efforts through this scholarship.”
