MEGlobal Canada selects 10 local non-profits for project funding

FORT SASKATCHEWAN – Ten local non-profit organizations are getting a boost through funding from the 2019 MEGlobal Canada Community Contributions Program.
A total of $25,000 from MEGlobal Canada ULC (MEGlobal) was allocated for projects ranging from safety to sports to homemade quilts.

“The organizations that were selected to receive funding from MEGlobal are really having a positive impact for a wide range of community interests,” said MEGlobal Fort Saskatchewan Site Leader Andrew Maile. “Their activities align closely with MEGlobal’s focus on sustainability.”

The recipients include the ABC Head Start Society – 123 Grow Child Development Centre who will use their $5,000 grant to implement a collaborative community painting project to design and complete a community mural and signage that both beautifies their children’s play space and invites the community into their center and playground.

“This project will contribute to sustainable development in our community by providing an inclusive and effective learning environment for children,” 123 Grow Child Development Centre stated in their application.

Parent Advocates Linking Special Services (P.A.L.S.S.) will receive $2,000 for their Hang with the Gang program. Participants enjoy activities such as swimming, rock climbing, karaoke or movie nights where, according to their application, they, “…get together, hang out, develop social and physical skills and share a snack or meal together.”

The Fort Saskatchewan Ringette Association is purchasing $2,200 in goalie gear in response to a growing number of participants interested in the goaltending position. In their application they stated, “As the interest and need grows it is an expensive part of any association to purchase goalie equipment. The bright side is that it does last a while but ensuring there is enough is always the struggle. It’s always fun to see, especially the little ones, as they come out in their full goalie gear with a big smile, knowing they have the right equipment to stay safe.”

The other recipients of the 2019 MEGlobal Community Contributions Program are:

Boys and Girls Club of Fort Saskatchewan – $4,000 for kitchen appliances to support education about cooking and healthy eating

Chipman 4-H Beef and Multi-Club – $1,300 for livestock handling safety equipment

Dr. Turner Lodge/Heartland Housing Foundation – $2,500 for gazebo to enhance safety and provide shade for residents

Fort Saskatchewan Pottery Guild – $2,000 for Empty Bowls initiative supporting local food bank

Fort Saskatchewan Rebels Lacrosse – $1,500 for Mini-Tyke equipment and floor time
