Freeport, TX – June 2025 – A milestone in the fight against food insecurity was marked this week as the Brazosport Cares Food Pantry broke ground on a new facility in Freeport, TX. MEGlobal Americas Inc. (MEGlobal) was one of the first to lend support to the project when it was proposed in 2022.
The groundbreaking ceremony brought together local leaders, volunteers, donors, and supporters to celebrate the future home of an expanded facility that will allow Brazosport Cares to serve more families in need with increased efficiency and dignity. MEGlobal representatives attended the event to reaffirm the company’s commitment to community success.
“MEGlobal is proud be a part of this important step toward ending food insecurity in our area,” said Trish Thompson, MEGlobal corporate communications leader. “By investing in Brazosport Care’s new facility, we’re not only helping meet immediate needs but also supporting long-term solutions that benefit our entire community.”
Founded in 1994, Brazosport Cares has been a lifeline for families facing hunger, providing free, nutritious groceries to more than 800 individuals per month. The new 7,500 square foot facility will increase the pantry’s enhance accessibility for clients and volunteers, support expanded partnerships with regional food banks, and provide spaces for education and engagement.
“This groundbreaking is about more than a building—it’s about hope, dignity, and opportunity,” said Christy Frey, Executive Director of Brazosport Cares.
She noted that in addition to food distribution, the facility will provide programs enabling families to learn about nutrition, meal preparation, budgeting and health.
“We don’t want to just give people food in times of crisis,” said Frey. “We want to go upstream to address the reasons they have to use our services and try to get them to a place where they don’t have to.”
MEGlobal’s five-year, $250,000 commitment—initiated in 2022—has been instrumental in turning the vision of the new facility into reality. In addition to financial support, MEGlobal employees have consistently volunteered with Brazosport Cares, helping sort and distribute food to those in need.
“Having opportunities to interact with the people using this organization’s services gives our employees a window into the need in our community and the real impact of food insecurity. We are proud to be able to support Brazosport Cares in their efforts to address these needs,” said Thompson.
